Perhaps this could become a romantic reality at the Norwegian Folk Museum and in the Gjestestuene banquet rooms. We are hosting weddings at Gjestestuene all summer long and many of our couples would like to have a real stave church wedding.
The stave church that stands at the Norwegian Folk Museum originally comes from Gol and was moved to Bygdøy in the 1880s. The church is a proper medieval church from the 13th century, and gives off an atmosphere of bygone days. Just think that here in the dim semi-darkness, brides and grooms have whispered their "I do" for over 800 years!
The stave church is small, so a wedding here is an intimate event. This is quite different from weddings in large church rooms where the wedding party only fills the very first pews. The stave church is well suited for wedding parties of up to 80 guests.
Winter weddings are also possible in the Stave Church, but guests must dress warmly, as the building is not heated.
