A peaceful gathering, just minutes away

Many choose to hold the funeral service in a nearby church or chapel, and then gather for the memorial reception with us at Gjestestuene. Here, you can retreat into the peaceful, historic surroundings of Bygdøy.


Our closest neighbor is the beautiful Bygdøy Church, located just a couple of minutes away by car. In addition, it is a short and easy drive from several of the major churches in western Oslo, such as Frogner Church, Ullern Church, and Vestre Aker Church.


If you are looking for a memorial reception with parking in Oslo, we have space for 10 cars in our private parking lot right outside the door, making logistics simple and stress-free for your guests.

Østerdalsstua and Folkestuen offer an intimate, heritage-rich atmosphere, providing the perfect setting for a dignified memorial reception. Here, everything is arranged for a quiet, peaceful gathering with your closest family and friends.

Catering and Service for the Memorial

All catering and table service at Gjestestuene is provided by our trusted partner, TG Selskapsmat. With their extensive experience in hosting memorial receptions, they ensure that every detail of your meal is handled with the utmost care and dignity.


To simplify planning, they offer convenient packages that include food, coffee/tea, and dedicated serving staff. The packages cover a duration of three hours, allowing plenty of time for a peaceful gathering. Beverages are billed based on consumption, and any extension beyond three hours can be arranged directly with them.


Traditional Norwegian open-faced sandwiches (snitter) are the most popular choice, but you are welcome to explore their full selection of menus.

Ideas for a simple itinerary

A memorial reception does not need a strict or elaborate schedule. Often, it is the quiet conversations and simply being together that matter most. Even so, it can be helpful to think through a simple outline in advance.


Whether you would like to display photos on a screen, play background music that held special meaning for your loved one, or have guests share a few words, we are here to help make those arrangements. A relaxed plan brings peace of mind to both you and your guests
