How much does a wedding cost?

Many people wonder how much it costs to arrange a wedding. At all times and in all cultures, weddings have been relatively expensive. In the old days, it was traditional for weddings to last three days. During this period, the entire wedding party would be accommodated, and the best food and drink that could be produced would be put on the table. 100 guests were not uncommon. Fortunately, wedding celebrations no longer last three days, and it is easier to calculate the price.

Price for renting premises and wedding venue

For wedding parties, it is common to reserve the entire building. It costs 31,900 NOK. You then have exclusive use of both the house and the courtyard. And we wash, set up, and keep the tablecloths and dishes.

We also rent out the Stave Church, Norwegian Church Art and Old Agriculture for weddings for those of our couples who wish to hold the actual wedding at the Folk Museum. The rental price is 11,000 NOK.

The bride and groom must find a priest or officiant themselves. We can help find a musician who can play during the wedding if desired. It usually costs from around 7000 NOK, depending on the repertoire and instrument.

How much does food and drink cost for a wedding?

At Gjestestuene it is common for the price of a wedding menu to be somewhere between approximately 2000 – 2500 kr. For this you will receive something sparkling upon arrival, perhaps with canapés or something else light to eat. For dinner, three or four courses are served. Afterwards there will be wedding cake with champagne for the bride and groom. Along with coffee and avec for the entire wedding party, of course. Some will also want a nightcap. Many people think that there will be a lot of drinks at the bar after a long wedding dinner. That's not entirely true. With us, the average is 2 drinks per guest at the bar. Some drink four, others drink nothing. That's always the case.

The guest rooms and the Sæterhytten are open until 0200. Between 2400 and 0200 there is an extra fee for night work. It is 4000 NOK per hour and covers, among other things, a taxi home for tired waiters without a car. So how much does a wedding cost? It depends on how you want to prioritize your big day.

How much do flowers and decorations cost?

Another small cost for the wedding is flower decorations for the tables. Here our guests are free to choose – you can bring your own flowers from the garden or a forest walk if you have the opportunity. You can also use your own flower supplier.

Otherwise, we recommend the Flower Garden on Abildsø, which has a large production on its five acres of flower garden, and where it is even possible to pick your own bridal bouquet. We think the style of the Flower Garden suits the Guest Houses and the Farm Cottage particularly well!
